Guest Lecturers with the London Program

Much of the student experience on the London Program is based on interaction with industry experts and professionals. To that end, students are exposed to a variety of guest artists that speak to the creation of theatre from their unique viewpoints.

  OSU alumni Diane Borger, Managing Director of the Royal Court, took time out of her busy schedule in both summers to show students the offices of th Court and to discuss the nature of developing new work and producing theatre in London - see more on the Field Trips page.
    Dr. Patrick Campbell spoke with students on the 2000 program on the concept of Live Art and how that relates to theatre.
    Tim Etchells of Forced Entertainment spoke to the 2000 students on the development of his company and their method of devising work.
  David Gale, the creator of the company Lumierie and Sons, spoke to the 2000 trip about his passion for creating theatre and the latest works of his company.
    Mark Jonathan, the head of lighting for the National Theatre, spoke to design students about the nature of the design process in Great Britain.
  Dr. Valerie Lucas has spoken to students from both the 2000 and the 2001 programs, focusing on the presentation of Shakespeare's works in the modern age. She also accompanied our students to the London Theatre Museum in Covent Garden - see more about that on the Field Trips page.
    Robin Soans, one of the cast members from the RNT production of The London Cuckolds, spoke to students in 2000 about the life of a performer in Grest Britain.
  Dr. Ruth Tompsett has spoken with students from the 2000 and 2001 programs on the experience and history of Carnival. She was our initial contact with Mahogany Mas Band and served as our guide in experiencing the Nottinghill Gate Carnival.
  Joanna Towne, head of lighting for the Royal Court, spoke to both programs and served as the supervisor for Brad Steinmetz's internship in 2001. From her students recieved a tour of the backstage areas as well as insight into the differences between American and British design process - see more on the Field Trips page.
    Matt Wolfe spoke to the 2001 students about the British theatre scene, focusing on the West End, speaking from his experience as the American theatre correspondant for Variety, the New York Times and other newspapers.
  The 2000 program was also able to meet and talk with the company of Clearwater after seeing the performance at the Barbican Pit Theatre - only to discover that the cast was staying in our dorm, making several new friends!
    The 2001 program met with the company of The Farside after seeing the performance at the Tricycle Theatre Company, talking with playwright, director, and cast about the creative process of developing a new work in London.
