Courses Offered on The London Theatre Program

Students on the London Program are allowed to take 10 to 15 credit hours dependent on their status with the university.

All students, graduate and undergraduate, must take Theatre 674, Contemporary British Theatre, for five credits.

  • Theatre 674 focuses on the Contemporary British Stage as students see a variety of performances dictated by the program director as well as experiencing tours of several theatre companies and discussions with guest lecturers.
  • Students are required to maintain a journal, reflecting on both their reactions to living in London as well as their responses to the shows and course discussions.
  • Writing for the course is centered around critical response to the plays seen, culminating in reviews of productions.

Undergraduates must also take Theatre 367.01, Self-Images of Americans on the British Stage, for five credits.

  • This course focuses on the American works seen in the duration of the program.
  • This is a writing intensive course, requiring students to write response papers to productions as well as a formal paper.

The remaining credit hours are filled with independent study hours.

  • Options for those include a cultural treasure hunt for students to become familiar with London as well as a variety of internships and/or opportunities for students to study personal interests in theatre. (**All students experiencing London for the first time are encouraged to do this for two (2) credit hours)
