Students
on the London Program are allowed to take 10 to 15 credit hours dependent
on their status with the university.
All students, graduate
and undergraduate, must take Theatre 674, Contemporary British Theatre,
for five credits.
- Theatre 674 focuses
on the Contemporary British Stage as students see a variety of performances
dictated by the program director as well as experiencing tours of several
theatre companies and discussions with guest lecturers.
- Students are required
to maintain a journal, reflecting on both their reactions to living in London
as well as their responses to the shows and course discussions.
- Writing for the course
is centered around critical response to the plays seen, culminating in reviews
of productions.
Undergraduates must also
take Theatre 367.01, Self-Images of Americans on the British Stage,
for five credits.
- This course focuses
on the American works seen in the duration of the program.
- This is a writing intensive
course, requiring students to write response papers to productions as well
as a formal paper.
The remaining credit hours
are filled with independent study hours.
- Options for those
include a cultural treasure hunt for students to become familiar with
London as well as a variety of internships and/or opportunities for
students to study personal interests in theatre. (**All
students experiencing London for the first time are encouraged to do
this for two (2) credit hours)

- Past independent
topics have included: Carnival, Audience Engagement Techniques of Street
Performers, Collaborative and Devised Works, Comparative British and
American Design Process, Movement Theatre, Comparitive Studies of Shakespeare
productions, documenation of various London companies such as Shared
Experience, and others.
- The year 2001 found
some students doing internships with the Royal Court Theatre in design
as well as internships with the Mahogany mas company culminating in
the Nottinghill Gate Carnival celebration.
